PREVIEW FROM CHAKRA SECRETS: I learned an exciting, simple-yet-profound energy healing tool from Serge Kahili King, PhD, founder of the Huna group, Aloha International. Dynamind was a simplified version of the Energy Freedom Technique (EFT) and it did have similarities to it, Dr. King said. “But in Huna, we try to make things as simple as possible, as effective as possible, so we’ve combined the power of words, breath, movement and feeling into one mind-body healing technique.” Dynamind can be used to heal a wide range of physical dis-ease, it was explained. You simply stated out loud what you wanted to change – the problem, pain or discomfort – and tapped, breathed and felt it go away. King advised asking yourself what emotion was a problem, where you felt that emotion in the body, and then work on changing that physical sensation to let the healing energy of the body once again flow freely. All emotion manifests within the body with some physical “feeling.” Just as chakra imbalances can manifest in uncomfortable physical and emotional problems. So, I found myself repeating my personal problem, “I feel guilt tightening my chest, and I know that can change. I want that feeling to go away,” as I held my hands in a prayer position. Then I tapped just four spots, the heart center, the web between the thumb and first finger of each hand, and the knob at the back of my neck where it meets the shoulders. I finished with a deep breath, inhaling from the top of my head and exhaling through my feet. I learned that you could work on the physical sensations you were experiencing and watch them change as Dynamind directed your subconscious. Emboldened with my new power to direct my inner, unconscious actions, I also tried, “I feel guilt cramping my stomach and I want that to change,” and “I feel the ache of anger in my chest and I want that to change,” and watched how the physical stress ebbed away the more I used Dynamind. Huna seemed to offer the wisdom I’d been looking for. So I stayed on the Big Island. Many people, I found, come to Hawaii on vacation and are led to stay, for an extra week, or month or sometimes a lifetime. I was one of them. I didn’t even go back to California to pack up. After all, now that my hurt and disappointment were no longer part of my baggage, a few pareos and my computer were all I needed. I planned to live at the retreat center and to take as many workshops as I could in exchange for giving yoga and meditation classes. Wow, what a life. The winner of the 2011 Hawaii Sweepstakes from TheChakras.org posted the following comments on the Hale Haumea vacation rental site, and answered a few questions about the chakra work she did while here, focusing on the Sacral Chakra and “going with the flow:”
I won a week-long stay at Hale Haumea through TheChakra.org’s 2011 Hawaii Sweepstakes. Wow – we never expected the trip to be so exciting! Lava started flowing again into the ocean just prior to our arrival (Pele had taken a break for several months and Kilauea Volcano was not spewing lava down the mountain). We were taken on a guided hike at sunset and between the flow of the lava creating fireworks and the billions of stars above us, it was breathtaking. The days were also wonderful, from swimming on a black-sand beach with others brave enough to go bare, to snorkeling in a warm pond with two large and one baby turtle, to meeting the author of The Chakra Diaries for a yoga class at Kalani Oceanside Retreat Center, just a mile away. I’m hoping to enter and win again this year, as we didn’t have enough time to see all the sights we wanted to – like Waipio Valley, but we were able to see three fabulous waterfalls in the Hilo area, so the falls at Waipio are something to look forward to. My husband loved the aqua massage he got from the owner’s friend (at a great discount) and I loved my lomi massage – my skin is still soft from the coconut oil. The cottage had everything we needed to feel comfortable and right at home, but the people we met probably made the trip for us – from the owner and her friends, they made sure we didn’t miss one special site or event happening nearby.
Meeting Becca and doing some chakra balancing work was a real eye-opener. Of all the chakracters in The Chakra Diaires, I most identified with Debra, and when Becca checked my chakras with a crystal pendulum, my Sacral Chakra was also imbalanced. I’ve been wanting more flow and creativity in my life, and the chakra balancing work, including swimming every day in the beautiful warm pond, made me feel strong and balanced in the 2nd chakra again. “The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.” ~ Maya Angelou
In my novel, The Chakra Diaries, all the characters need to build a strong Root Chakra foundation before they can move on to achieve what they want in life. Estrella especially experiences the feelings of isolation, abandonment and lack of trust associated with an unbalanced root chakra, and needs to find the safe place within herself that was not given to her in her childhood home.
Your first chakra, the root chakra, is the base of security and safety. It is associated with our basic instincts of survival – food, shelter, health and self-preservation. It is the very foundation of our being and our identity. It is located at the base of the spine, its associated color is red.
When unbalanced, you may feel fear, anxiety, insecurity, self-centeredness, low self-esteem, and physical problems such as lower back pain, sciatica, constipation, weight issues, and even addictions to food or alcohol.
When it is balanced, your mind is calm and clear and you feel a sense of profound physical connection to the earth.
YOGA POSES TO BALANCE THE ROOT CHAKRA
Try these yoga poses to help increase circulation and energy in the lower abdomen and energize your root chakra: Pelvic Rotations, Butterfly, and the Squat with Sound Breath.
ROOT CHAKRA MEDITATION
Inhale deeply, hold your breath and then exhale. Bring your attention to the base of your spine. Visualize a red whirling ball of energy there. See the red getting brighter and stronger as it goes down both your legs – filling every cell with invigorating energy. Let it flow out through your feet into the center of the earth. Let the healing red energy form deep roots anchoring you, holding you safe and secure. Know that you belong on this earth. With a deep breath, draw up the healing energy of Mother Earth into your root chakra. Feel the security, strength and comfort of belonging here in your chosen place.

Q: Becca, I do yoga every day, but the chakra balance test showed I still have chakras out of balance. It's hard to believe. Any advice? A: Not all yoga classes are created equal. I personally recommend yoga classes that end with a Chakra Meditation while the class lies in Savasana, corpse pose, or the pose of pure relaxation. Listen to my Chakra Meditations from The Chakra Diaries, download it onto your iPod and listen to it at the end of your yoga practice and let me know how you're feeling. Namaste! I love this explanation of how the energies of spirit and earth, yin and yang, combine to energize our chakras, from macrobiotic teacher Bob Carr:
"Cosmic energy is constantly streaming toward the earth from innumerable stars and galaxies. This yang, downward and inward streaming energy, which can be called heaven's force, enters the human body through the Crown Chakra and flows down the spiritual channel running vertically through our body. At the same time, energy generated from the spin of the earth enters our body at the Root Chakra, at the base of the spine, and flows upward and outward through the same spiritual channel. This yin energy is referred to as earth's force. "These two vertical streams of electromagnetic energy collide and spiral at points on this channel known as chakras (from the Sanskrit word meaning wheel). From here they flow out through our meridiens and ultimately charge and vitalize all the organs, tissues and cells of the body." I love when two healing modalities blend. Macrobiotic counselor Bob Carr goes on the say that chewing (at least 50 bites per mouthful) highly charges the food being chewed with mineral-rich saliva. Our physical and electromagnetic energy body becomes activated and energized, bringing healing and a sense of well-being.
Macrobiotic principles of eating and living are wonderful in helping create and maintain balance in our bodies. It's wonderful to hear that the recommended way of chewing our food, until it's liquid, is also a powerful method of balancing our spiritual chakras.

I’ve had many questions regarding “The Secret” to manifesting your goals, as I mention it in “The Chakra Diaries.” Having your chakras in balance, and being in a place of positive energy, will help you keep your focus on your goals, and help you energize your manifestations. I’m reading a unique book on the chakra system, called Chakramid(TM) Rainbow Eyes, in which Mary Jo Shaffer expands on this theory of manifestation:
The Crown Chakra “is where the physical meets the infinite for the purpose of manifestation or creation in your world,” she writes. “All physical creation is first a thought… it then descends to the 1st Chakra. The seed is deposited in fertile ground, so to speak, and blooms into physical manifestation.
“How quickly something manifests depends upon the alignment of all of the Chakras; in other words, how balanced the thinker is.”
It is in the 2nd Chakra, writes Shaffer, where “emotion speeds up the manifesting process of bringing thoughts into being.”
She agrees that the growth of a manifesting thought can get stuck in one level or another until the person balances that area.

Just like you carry a few everyday items in your purse, pocket or car, like cough drops to soothe your throat, lip gloss to protect and brighten your lips or gym shoes for your lunchtime walk, having a set of crystals can be very useful for clearing energy blockages and opening chakras. They need not be fancy or showy and seem to work best when they are allowed to choose you. As proof that “everything” in this life is alive, aware and responsive, hold your hand over a few crystals and wait until one or more of them signals you that they are ready to become yours, to accompany you and to work with you by both absorbing and giving off energy.
Now, as the new guardian of your crystals and the recipient of their marvelous power, you have a responsibility to keep them clean and energized. First steep your new crystals overnight in a solution of sea salt and water and dry them thoroughly before you begin to use them.
Periodically, re-wash your crystals in the salt solution, or in rainwater and then re-energize them by exposing them to moon or sunlight for several hours. Take advantage of the healing energy of every full moon by leaving your crystals outside overnight.
Crystals can be simple, yet powerful tools when you’re seeking balance and a sense of well-being in your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual self.
To aid in general stress relief, try placing three clear quartz crystals, points facing outward, in a triangle just below your navel. Next, place three rose quartz stones in an arc above your pubic bone and relax for 4-5 minutes. Repeat as often as is needed for optimal energy flow.
For a complete Chakra Balance, try this simple crystal layout to reinforce your chakra energies and ensure they are functioning well.
Choose a grounding stone (black, brown or dark red) to place between your feet. Then choose a stone or crystal corresponding to the different colors of the chakras, placing the red one between your knees, the orange right above your pelvic bone, the yellow right above your navel, the green over your heart center, the light blue on your throat, indigo or dark blue on your forehead and a violet or clear stone on the floor just above the top of your head. Lie down with these stones in place for a period of about 5 minutes or until you feel complete, then remove the stones starting with the one above your head.
Relax for a few more minutes, still lying down, then enjoy a sense a well-being and balance, ready to face the stresses of the day ahead.
"Through love all pain will turn to medicine." ~ Rumi
All healers work their magic through the power of love. And we can all heal ourselves - by releasing the tension that stops our healing energy from flowing. How? Through love. Open your heart chakra, and feel the love and compassion flow through yourself and out to the world.
The 4th or Heart Chakra is located at your heart center. It represents selfless love, kindness, compassion, and is where we store emotional experiences.
Signs of an unbalanced Heart Chakra include anger, insensitivity, depression, grief, despair, jealousy and sadness. When this chakra is balanced, we are able to give and receive love, be compassionate and feel true connection with others. We can enjoy our feelings. This is also where we begin to experience the power of pray and meditation, which emanate from this center.
YOGA POSES FOR THE HEART CHAKRA The Spinal Twist opens and expands the heart center. The Head of Cow, where you reach your arms behind you to meet in the middle of your back, also opens the chest and relieves tension in the back and shoulders.
MEDITATION ON THE HEART CHAKRA Feel the yellow sacral chakra light from the navel area travel up to the center of your chest, turning into a bright green, as it enters the home of the heart chakra. Breathe in and out the beautiful emerald green mist surrounding you with love, joy and compassion for yourself and others. Feel any tension blocking the flow of this love. Any anger is passed. Any fear is in the future. Heal these emotions in the now. When you let go of negative emotions, you'll relax the tension they create and feel your true essence of love and healing power flow. Send forgiveness to those who may have caused pain, wrapping them in the bright green light, cleansing and healing the situation. Release yourself and them from any negative connections, only keeping the good. Now, wrap yourself and your whole life experience in healing green light.
Several of the characters in The Chakra Diaries learn forgiveness in the course of chakra balancing, and their lives are freed from the restraints of negativity. They are free to love and be loved, to spread their love to the world. Read more in The Chakra Diaries ~ on special sale now at Amazon.com.

I've been reading quite a few comments and articles about a broken government, a broken economy and a broken eco-system. What are the underlying catalysts behind what is broken in our world? Scientists at the Institute of HeartMath point to imbalanced heart patterns. Which, of course, led me to believe that the entire world needs to balance their heart chakras, to bring out their innate love and compassion.
A Hopi prophecy spoke of a world out of balance, that could be healed by healing our hearts and the collective heart of the people on earth.
HeartMath.org describes a simple heart coherence exercise: First, focus attention on the area of your heart. Then, breathe deeply into that area. Maintain your heart focus and heart breathing for several minutes. Then activate a feeling of gratitude and allow yourself to fully experience it.
By keeping our heart chakras in balance, we can stay true to our hearts and ensure that our hearts and our world are never broken again. For a full chakra meditation, please practice the free one on my Meditation page at The Chakras.org. Namaste! Becca Chopra, author of The Chakra Diaries
I recently got the chance to experience chakra balancing through crystal light therapy and would recommend it to anyone, anywhere. Developed, crafted and blessed by John of God, the miracle healer in Brazil, the Crystal Light Bed uses clear-cut quartz crystals that generate color and light therapy to cleanse, clear and raise the vibration of your chakras. Two energy healers in Hawaii have brought these beds back from Brazil, and I was told of one in Oklahoma as well.
As you lie on the Crystal Light Bed, the rainbow-colored light beams alternate through the seven pure quartz crystals to balance your chakras. I laid with my eyes closed and listened to soft relaxing music of dolphin and whale sounds while I received this energy. After 1/2 hour, I arose feeling very calm and focused. Reported results vary from a feeling of deep relaxation to relief of pain and increased well being and overall health.
I'm now reading "John of God, The Brazilian Healer Who's Touched the Lives of Millions." From the DVD I watched of his center and practice in Abadiania, Brazil, he is a medium who channels powerful healing entities. Many people are healed on the spiritual and energetic level, while others also demonstrate miraculous recovery from cancer and other physical disease. He says, "I don't heal, God does." Namaste!
